Soy Hello and happy birthday!
Thank you very much
But on the other hand, on the site of Soma on Myspace, you have a different age .. It makes you how old there?
It's 31 years.
Okay, because on Soma was written 38 years anyway ... 38 ... Yeah, but at Soma they are littles bastards (laughs)
Do you watched the video of Pierre (Prospero)? Yes I have watch it, it was something we had filmed years ago, when he had to leave his video Lolipop.
You had never seen it finished? I saw him the day of the first, in a cinema in Paris, a few years ago ...
At Soupe de Lait, we were more 20 than 30 years, at 20, do you had a different vision of the skateboard? No, I think I had the same vision. At that time I was a student, I did a lot of skateboarding. And I already had roughly the same vision. I did skate for fun, I liked the creative skate.
And you wondered skate yet 10 years later? Yes I think. I knew how much I will, I have imagined a job or something like that, I knew very well that I will continue to skate, as I can anyway. Physically as I can skate, I will continue.
Compared to this, I saw on the internet that you did yoga. Yes, I was very much at a time, I make less now. I need to go back. I need it now more than at the time elsewhere.
In 30 years it is hard sometimes skater? No, it's just that you get tired a little faster. But it will not, I think I would like. After it's all, when you do something all the time you have more endurance.
Do you have the impression of having evolved in your style for example since you started in the skate? No, not really I think. I watch old stuff about me and I think that is roughly the same style, the same figures as (laughs)
Precisely for your tastes figures have changed? For example you have can be a trick that you did not at a time and that you are loving now? No, I know that there have been a period, a little of the dark period skate, where I set aside the figures techniques for some time .. This was around 1993. The skate was super technical, I was deeply in there then there's been a time when everyone has stopped the skate. It has become boring. It was pushed so technically it was almost more interesting, and above all there was no one left to skater. I stopped for some time to do anything technical, and then after a while you thought and you think it's funny to do a little of everything, it would be done or the technical nor just roll in raids. Make a mix of the two is interesting. You can combine a little technical, and a few rail. A little of everything.
Yeah that's what I saw, you have of lines where you give no complys and other fairly technical tricks ... Yeah, I think that's a little what to do. There are many people who are confined to a certain area. I am not saying that this is good or bad, it's just that this is not the way that I see the skate. There are people who only want to do the big and s'emmerdent not with the tech and others who will make the ultratech 'and which will stick only on a spot to do the most complicated thing, and who do not want to wander around town, making the descent, do things a little different. After you see, if this is how they have fun in skate, it's good for them. It's very personal. I think what makes me happy is to make a little bit of what I can do. After I had tremendous capabilities, I am limited in all areas.
We rarely have images of you skating a gap or a rail. That's because you have fun not doing? Anyway I am incapable. I have a fear of steps ...
He cames to you a nasty blow? Yeah, I broke a lot of stuff. I have twice broken ankle, twice the left arm, once in the right arm ... And it wasn't made me happy that much of skater something that made me afraid.
Yes, it is not super fun to try something and be wrong afterwards. I just think that it's not worth the candle. This is not something that will make me special pleasure, and more and more I have no desire to return 3 months with a plaster. It seems even more strange make flat with friends without me hurt.
When you skates it seems that this is really a ballad. It seems like you go for a walk in the city. Underlying skateboarding is a means of travel between a toy and a means of travel.
Exactly I think it is clear in the latest videos we saw you, as the mounting of Peter, or videos Sylvain Robineau too. The video PARISien is a real trip in Paris and ... Yeah that's what was interesting in the trick indeed, it is not so much the skate that is actually put forward. I have been greatly influenced by the videos around 1995, Stereo, etc ... It is a lot of ride, the ride in the city, you skates in the middle of cars, you raise a sidewalk, if there's a low wall in the corner you do a grind over ... I think a video part is supposed to be something that should be enjoyable to watch.
That's how long you skates, because you speak of the dark period of skate around 1993, 1995 videos, etc. ... It's going to be nearly 20 years is that I am skate, I started in 89. You have 20 years is that? Yes, I have 20 years. I started skateboarding when you was a baby. (Laughs) It's crazy as you take a stroke of old. Hahaha I did not want to tell you this so that you take control of a coup old. No no, I live quite well my age.
You're skating for Landscape right? Yes, Landscape and other stuff, Dekline Shoes, Thunder and Spitfire, Bud Skateshop, Rockers Qinx Bearings and Hardware.
And compared to Landscape, how it happens to be a french among English? I do not see super often. There was a time when I went to London quite often, at the moment I go as often. But I feel vachement closer to the English scene that the French scene.
You will find that there is a difference in mentality between the french and English? I think that the English are more open-minded. In France on heavy criticism from all, we have a kind of antinationalisme. It's good to have a critical mind on your country, but I believe that after France it is pushed really outrageous. And England they have a little trick. Everybody buys only Trademark English, which means that there is a skate industry, which is a little bit more developed, which is supported by most people. I also think that the skaters English are still cool and vachement open, everyone skate together, be it old or young, tech or no tech '. They roam together in the evening, everyone knows vachement more, while I think that in France there's still a lot of clans. You traînes with people who like you skatent more or less, and then that's it.
I noticed that when I went to London, Southbank they all knew each other when they were sometimes completely different. This is compared to that which you have chosen a sponsor British rather than French brand? The Organic brand name at the very beginning. I liked, there was Toby Shuall, at the time of the First Video Broadcast. I skatais for Minutia at the time, and there had been some mismanagement, not really it off, we had the means to do anything. And then there are the types of Landscape who came to my house to film for their first video, so they had occupied at home a week and I became good friends with everybody. On the one hand there was Minutia where he was going on fewer things, we had more ways of making boards, we could do anything, and on the other they wanted me to skate Landscape, and the same time I was more or less a proposal for a skater to Stereo to the United States. I hesitated between the two, there is a still maintains that represents more money than the other. And then finally the guy with Stereo was not done, and I am very happy to be home Landscape. In terms of image and it's all really something that matched me and it is really good.
In recent months I saw that you had a lot filmed, PARISien, the street is to the image and most recently the Static 3. I always quite filmed for instance there were also the Pandora, a promo Tikal, a small teaser Minutia, and others videos with Pierre Prospero we had done before. It's funny to film even if I make all the time the same thing, it seems strange to me so I continued. And I currently filming for the video Landscape.
There was also the portrait? In the portrait I had just a trick, I skated not for them at the time. He is a guest in there in the part of Joel Curtis. Here we will release a video for this summer may be there, so why all films at the moment.
Is this push you not to go to London? I do some A / R in London for that, at the same time I think for other videos I have already filming stuff everywhere, and there are a lot of things yet to show in Paris. That's what I enjoyed in PARISien really, I think the skate is not just go somewhere else and make a figure, it is to show something else, show a city, show an atmosphere, an atmosphere. I think there is plenty to do in Paris, so I try to bring more of the filmeur Landscape.
At the same time oou are the little french of the mark, it is good that you represent the city of Paris. Yeah absolutely, and I think that somewhere it's also what people want to see. I do not know if people really want to see me skipping 4 blocks in Wallemberg switch flip, but there are plenty of other people who can do it, and do it very well indeed. I think that each skateur there is something that goes with it and that people want to see. When I look at Bobby Puleo I want to see the skater in New York between cars and do something on a spot inskatable ..
When you look at Kenny Reed you want to see in a place you know not travel with him. Yeah, in another country, where people y'a 4 (laughs), to entrain an ollie twisted, and it is nice, when you look at Ricky Oyola you have want to see it in the middle of Philadelphia, pushing entrain . See Ricky Oyola in Barcelona, Macba, I do not know if it's very very interesting.
When you travel, you have tendency to travel to film or pleasure? It is you who said that you did you want to go to this or that place? There is a little bit of both. Let's say that my only way to travel is to go somewhere to shoot or to try to make pictures, because that is what is going to pay for my plane ticket. As I can not afford to go anywhere I want to go just to visit, I try to tell me someone bon ben voilà, if I go over there that I filmed and I try to make a picture it's good for you, so I need a plane ticket in bulk. There is a bit of both you know. I go because I want to see, I want to go in as many places as possible, and it makes the trip a little more stressful because you think it should be something that I . There is a need for people who are paying a ticket you can have confidence in you. Sometimes t'arrives in countries where there's not much to skater. Finally you see, the skate is always complicated, there's always external factors, rain, that you will do throw, there is no spots, as t'arrives not do your figure, it makes thing a little stressful. It allowed me to go in so many places that I continue.
I said that in relation to the Static 3, I saw that it was much filmed in Paris, but also you had tricks abroad. There are things in Berlin, Israel, the United States, and there is a trick to India. In the Static there could have pictures of a lot of other places but then there was the problem of image format, etc. ... On the one hand I am glad that there is more to Paris than other things, but after I am glad there are pictures everywhere. We had to make a complete intro and do more things in India, but when we went to India with Josh, he fell ill. It could not very well supported India. He especially given his hotel room.
There had not been an article about it in a magazine? Yes, there was an article in Skateboarder.
I remember I had read that. I went twice in India to make the skate, there was something in Kingpin where I went with Europeans. This was the time later, when it was much more skate, we found many more spots and there were no filmeur with us, then we have nothing filmed. And the year before I went there with Josh, and Ed Selego Guru Khalsa. It was an article for Skateboarder, and there was Josh who was pictures and filming. It was not found masses of spots that year. And Josh has almost died! (Laughs) It was nonetheless able to achieve an article, so it is cool. It's good it was a good experience. Josh still remembers elsewhere.
Apart from the story of Josh, the filming of the Static 3 went well? In fact the beginning was quite complicated. The first thing I did with Josh was in India, where I filmed a figure roughly in half. A wallride that is in my hand, and a kind of small line which is in the bonus. After I left, I shoot a few tips with other people, with other filmeurs, but Josh did not know me really. We had friends in common. He did not know me at all, and he asked me one hand. The Static 2 was one of my favorites, so I was a little intimidated. After I had to go to Miami, home, filming for 2 weeks, and a few months before I broke my ankle, so the first time I really have to go with him shoot stuff back I barely skate after 3 months Stop.
And there had also been an article on that I think. Yeah there was an article in Sugar where I treated it a little fun. But when I was in Miami was almost depressing, because I skate absolutely no confidence in myself. I had lost the pop, I had lost lots of stuff, and this was the first time where I was going to really shoot with Josh. In addition to Miami spots are super rinsed, there are things that inskatables where people doing tricks because the spots are there for 10 years, and they have the hooks to do something. It's the same logic as Hubba Hideout. It is a hubba which is still super imposing, when you go there and you are there never been in your life, you think now I will be making noseslide. The guys go there, they are going to do something incredible there, and the coup in the spot almost loses its value. That is to say, you see Koston, who will noseblunt back there, and on a ledge and less the same, which is big in Thailand and nobody knows it will make a fifty back. At Hubba t'es forced to do something good, because there's been so many things that you do not top choice. Either you do nothing, or you do something incredible. And most of the spots we did in Miami it was a little, spots that you see in all the mags, all videos in the past 10 years. Either you do something that is better than what has been done before, or you do nothing. Moi I arrived there, it was not really my cup of tea, do something better than what has been done before is not really my logic. And plus I had my leg kind of crazy, at the end of two weeks, starting from Miami I was on the verge of telling Josh bon bah be allowed to fall, it is not, and I really thought that he would tell me bah yeah, it dropped. Finally I do not tell him, and he did not say anything either. I was always super motivated afterwards, and it was other stuff, I went to New York, and I filmed stuff with other people in Europe, in Berlin. Eventually it did very well, I am happy. I am really pleased to have a part in the Static, for me it's one of the best things I could do with my life in skate.
You said that you knew of it like that you chose to have a hand in his video? We had friends in common, he knew Kenny, I know well as Kenny, so I think they can be spoken. And he almost everything based on an interview he had seen me in Sugar, and 3 tricks in a teaser Landscape, the first teaser Landscape, which was on the website. Well, I had 3 tricks inside and he liked it, it was on the same logic and state of mind that what he was trying to demonstrate in his videos.
I watched a lot the Static III, I think you can be quite proud. Yes, I am happy, then I think that there is nothing unbelievable in, but I think it reflects just how I skate. Finally, I am not very difficult at the same time (laughs).
For the last, would you have an idea of what would be your soupe de lait recipe ?
My soupe de lait recipe? I do the pure wood. At some point we must take the next step you know, I am now 31 years old, soup milk is not something on which I kidding. It is something that I live every day. It is primarily a bowl of milk, with a drop of liquid water for a bit, otherwise it's not a soup. But I think there is still a certain dosage to be met. (Laughter)
Thank you very much Soy.
